1977年、兵庫県生まれ。
自然の中に長期的に滞在しながら、人間の認識や世界の構造を探究する作品制作を行なってきた。 14歳の時に独学で写真を始め、スタジオアシスタントを経て制作活動を本格化する。2010年、富士山七合目にある山小屋に600日間滞在し、水や電気のない環境の中で人間の認識を超えた光と宇宙の在り方に触れながら、雲上の世界を撮り続けた作品集『夜明け』（赤々舎）を発表。2014年には、その滞在していた山小屋の主人に焦点をあて、人間が自然の中で生きるという行為そのものを見つめ直した書籍『雲の上に住む人』（静山社）を刊行。2020年には、5年をかけてモンゴル全土を巡り、時間と空間、そして意識の層を横断する旅の中で制作した作品集『惑星』（青幻舎）を発表。そして2023年、屋久島に9年通い、単身で森の中に滞在しながら、自然と人間の距離や関係性を探り続けた作品『自然 JINEN』（青幻舎）を発表する。現在は長野県を拠点に、国内外で展覧会を開催し続けている。

Born in 1977 in Hyogo, Japan.
Yu Yamauchi has developed his practice through long-term stays in natural environments, exploring human perception and the structure of the world.He began photography independently at the age of 14 and later pursued his career professionally after working as a studio assistant.In 2010, he published DAWN (Akaakasha), created during approximately 600 days spent living in a mountain hut on Mt. Fuji, where he encountered light and the universe beyond human perception in an environment without electricity or running water.In 2014, he released The Man Who Lives Above the Clouds (Seizansha), focusing on the hut’s owner and reexamining what it means for humans to live within nature.After traveling across Mongolia over five years, he published PLANET (Seigensha) in 2020, a journey across layers of time, space, and consciousness.In 2023, he presented JINEN (Seigensha), developed through repeated solitary stays in the forests of Yakushima, exploring the distance and relationship between humans and nature.He is currently based in Nagano, Japan, and continues to exhibit his work both domestically and internationally.
